UDIA National Masterplanned Development Award 2003

Golden Grove, Adelaide, S.A.

South Australia's Golden Grove Development is an excellent example of a large-scale masterplanned, mixed use development. The judges said Golden Grove's success was a result of strong housing industry support and a broad range of effective initiatives. Golden Grove is a fine example of what can be achieved through enterprise partnerships between the public and private sectors.

Chuck Wark, as director and principal landscape architect of Cielens + Wark, was responsible for the design, documentation and project management of the majority of the Golden Grove landscape works from 1985 to 1994.

Total contract value for all landscape works within the Golden Grove development over a period of 10 years was in excess of $25M (current values).

Inaugural Fleming’s Nurseries/AILA Peter Todd 'Toddy' Award – 2001

A special award presented to Ground Control as part of the AILA 2001 Victoria & Tasmania State Awards for the Taylors Hill Project, Victoria. The citation reads:

Fleming's Nurseries initiated the Peter Todd Prize in 2001 as the Peter Todd 'Toddy' Award in an effort to both reward and support landscape architects for exemplary use of plant material within the landscape. The prize recognises the efforts of one of Australia‘s leading Nurserymen, Peter Todd, who has significantly contributed to improving the quality of trees available to landscape architects.

This special prize recognises landscape architects who have exhibited a demonstrable understanding of the challenges of plant selection and appreciation of the importance of plant material and its sustainable use within the urban landscape.

The prize recognises appropriate and sustainable use of plant material. Selected plants should offer as a minimum longevity in a given growing location, be appropriately sized as mature specimens and suit the design and site conditions.

FIABCI Prix d'excellence – 1998

Golden Grove, Adelaide, S.A.

In 1998, Golden Grove was awarded the Prix d'Excellence as the world's Best Residential Development by the International Real Estate Federation.

Golden Grove was a Delfin Property Group planned community of over 12,000 homes created over a 15-year period in the undulating escarpment hills 20 minutes north of the Adelaide CAD. The development incorporated, as a core urban design commitment, over 100 hectares of open space, from detailed urban parks and landscaped boulevards to revegetated escarpments, including many kilometres of linear reserves, a Secondary Education Shared Facilities Complex and Arts & Recreation Centre.

Total landscape works contract value over a period of 10 years was in excess of $25M (current values).

Civic Trust of South Australia Inc. Ian McDonald Award – 1998

Enfield Memorial Park, S.A.

The citation reads:

The Civic Trust of South Australia considers that the Campbell Memorial Gardens, Enfield Memorial Park, has made a sensitive contribution to the built environment, and its qualities merit recognition as good civic design. Accordingly, the Trust hereby certifies that under its Scheme of Awards, it has given the project an award in Category 1 – Buildings in Their Settings and Category 3 – Landscape and Streetscape.

Chuck Wark, as director and principal landscape architect of Cielens + Wark, provided master planning & landscape architecture services to the Enfield General Cemetery Trust for a period of 11 years from 1984 to 1994.

Total contract value for total landscape developments within the Enfield Memorial Park over this period was in excess of $3.75M (current values).
